But unless the realist have a strong leash on Bush he is still a wild card. The other wild card is Israel. Will they or won't they? If Israel starts it, congress will cave and that will be that. If push does indeed come to war, Cheney will shove Bush into Iran by any and all means necessary. The president simply lacks both the strength and intellectual acumen to stave off Cheney and his attack dog, Addington. Add to this the fact that Joe Lieberman now recites Michael Ledeen's lines on the Hill ("war, war, faster, faster") and the Conservatives, aided and abetted by a horrid cast of Democrats in the area of Senate rules and procedures, will get their attack on Iran. The only question remains whether that war, a Norman Podhoretz wet dream since the days of being bullied on the playgrounds of his youth, will lead to nuclear deployment and the wholesale ostracizing of the United States from the world stage.
