Actually, some Jews believed that members of the Amalekites did survive. (For example, Haman in the Book of Esther was described as an “Agagite” (i.e., descendant of Agag, king of Amalek). Further, he was in the court of the King of Persia, which includes modern-day Iran.)
However, it is telling that incidents like this go unreported in the mainstream media.

Amalek or not, Goldberg’s Atlantic piece on Netanyahu a couple of months ago reveals a man with a superficial and prejudicial understanding of historical events.
His reading of Iran’s leadership is based on historical references and analogies that are completely wrong.

Zionist leaders always use the “Amalek” analogy upon anyone who opposes them and thereby justify their cruelty and war crimes as a commandment from GOD to ethnically cleanse or extreminate “the enemy”. The Amalek analogy is a call to DESTROY and is 100 times worse than any twisted use of the slogans of a Crusade or Jihad.

This Amalek business seems to be a recurrent neocon refrain. David Goldman, aka Spengler, wrote a similar piece at First Things–supposedly a theology oriented journal: Either Way, Amalek Must Die: A Passover Meditation Apr 2009. Here’s the link:
