Chalabi isn’t in any elected post.

This news is over four years old. Mae Culpa. At the time of his backing by the US, the charges against Chalabi only had lose evidence to back them up. Unlike, say, Hamid Karzai whom the Obama administration continues to cheer on and back as president of Afghanistan (not that there are clear alternative pathways, but if we’re going to play the blame game let’s be equal opportunity).

I’ll give you credit though, pointing out mistakes with the benefit of hindsight is a tough job. Keep up the good work.

I do not think you should base 1 article on the words and presumed facts of another article. Particularly if the other article comes from an author and newspaper are both known to be biased.

For the most part, with a few notable exceptions, most of the neo-cons would be intelligent by 19th century standards but not by late 20th century standards. In other words, they can network and go in and out of office like the 19th century politicians and technicians did. And of course there are no standalone leaders in their class. They have but one creed and that is might makes right. Oh sorry, they have two creeds, the above and to avoid being in war themselves to the extreme. They are physical and mental cowards. Glenn Beck is a shining example, castigating John McCain for putting Theodore Roosevelt as an example. Teddy may have been many things but a physical and mental coward he wasn’t.

Neocons needed Chalabi to help justify their case for attacking Iraq, they used him to the fullest. They probably knew quite well about his connections to Iran but at that time the main target was Iraq. They don’t have much use of Chalabi now, they will find other ways to push us into yet another war. Contrary to what the article suggests, the neocons are quite smart and they have full support of Israel firsters.
