Arabs See Israeli Occupation More Threatening Than Iranian Nukes

The latest “Arab Attitudes” survey, released Wednesday by the Arab American Institute Foundation, gives the lie — and rather convincingly, too — to the notion pushed by neo-conservatives and other factions of the Israel Lobby that Iran’s nukes are seen by Arab publics as more threatening to the peace and security of the Middle East than Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. The entire poll, which covered Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia (KSA), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), deserves attention (and should offer no comfort at all to the Obama administration), but a look at tables 18 (p. 5), 26-30 (p. 8), and 31 (p. 8) provides yet more evidence that the occupation is costing the U.S. dearly in the region.

  1. The elephant in the room is Israeli nukes. Coupled to that are those of the UN Security Council. Iran, of course, has none.
I watched TV accounts of the Cuban Missile Crisis live. You cannot sell me on the idea Russia is about to supply WMD to a threat in its back yard after the job they did supplying Cuba after Turkey received nuke missiles from the US.
It’s a farce – just like the supposed threats from Iraq and even North Korea. N.K. was pushed to show they could produce weapons by the constant abridging of the 3rd Pillar of the NPT. After all…they are still involved in a civil war because their country is partly occupied by foreign troops.
I expect they recall U.S. capacity for bombing the Hell out of people very well from personal experience…even if nobody else seems to.
