On the day when Israel’s ambassador, Michael Oren, met formally with J Street executive director Jeremy Ben-Ami for the first time, the right-wing leadership of what has come to be known as the “Israel Lobby” expressed genuine alarm that the administration of President Barack Obama may be prepared to exert serious pressure on the government [...]

America and the Dictators
The crisis has come suddenly, almost without warning. At the far edge of American power in Asia, things are going from bad to much worse than anyone could have imagined. The insurgents are spreading fast across the [...]

Gods and Monsters
Fighting American Wars From On High
The Greeks had it right. When you live on Mount Olympus, your view of humanity is qualitatively different. The Greek gods, after all, lied to, stole from, lusted for, and punished humanity without mercy, while taking the planet for a [...]

Réalité-EU, a group linked to The Israel Project, has been distributing USB drives to journalists outside the Nuclear Security Summit here in Washington. The USB drives contain a “press kit” (PDF) for the summit. Unsurprisingly, the kit is chock full of articles calling for stricter sanctions against Iran.
For those paying attention to the Nuclear Security [...]

(Remember the 60s rock-musical Hair? Here’s a 21st century parody of its hit song “The Age of Aquarius.”)
The health care bill has finally passed.
Rays of hope for the economy.
“Too big too fail” may be too big to fight.
So let’s turn to foreign policy!
This is the dawning of the Age of Nefarious.

The right wing blogosphere is buzzing with rumors (denied by the White House, according to Ben Smith of Politico) that the Obama administration has refused visas to employees of the Nuclear Research Center-Negev (NRCN) in Dimona, Israel. Roger Simon, blogging at Pajamas Media, claims to be quoting an article published in the Israeli daily Maariv…Nestled in Simon’s (or an uncredited source’s) “exclusive Pajamas Media translation” is the revelation that the English version Simon is quoting “is from a Google translation that I’ve tried to fix up a little bit.” A little bit? Let’s play “Simon Says” and compare his (or his source’s) efforts to what Maariv writer Uri Binder actually wrote.

Like the gleeful sound one makes upon hearing that a particularly obnoxious and troublesome relative will not be attending a family gathering, Washington officials probably issued a collective sigh of relief when hearing the news that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has canceled his visit to Washington planned for next week. The Israeli Prime Minister [...]

You don’t have to look too hard to find salient critiques of New York Times Jerusalem bureau chief Ethan Bronner’s coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
But Bronner really got under my skin with yesterday’s front-page story, “Palestinians Try Less Violent Path to Resistance.” His omissions are legion — most notably that he doesn’t even seem to [...]

(Updated below)
I don’t have very much to add to the discussion sparked by the must-watch video of U.S. helicopter gunners mowing down a crowd of mostly unarmed men in a Baghdad street in 2007.
But I did want to point to something I picked up from Glenn Greenwald’s excellent analysis of the video — the depravity [...]
